Oversized does not mean shapeless. The difference between an outfit that looks intentional and one that looks like you grabbed the wrong size usually comes down to a handful of small styling choices. Here is what actually works.
The golden rule: if your top is oversized, keep the bottom relatively closer to the body, and vice versa. Two oversized pieces at once can work, but it takes a confident silhouette to pull off without reading as shapeless.
A single fitted or cropped element, a waistband, a cinched jacket, rolled sleeves, gives an oversized outfit a shape for the eye to land on. Without it, volume can start to look accidental instead of deliberate.
Heavier, structured fabrics hold an oversized shape better than thin, floppy ones. This is part of why RVB builds its oversized pieces on real jersey and heavier cotton constructions rather than lightweight fabric that would just sag.
Oversized layering, a boxy tee under an oversized shirt, or a longline outer piece over a shorter base layer, adds depth without adding bulk, as long as each layer has a slightly different hem length so the shape reads as intentional.
This is RVB's own guidance to customers: buy your regular size. The oversized shape is already built into the pattern, sizing up on top of that usually overshoots into shapeless territory.
