Buying an oversized tee online is harder than buying a regular one, because a size M from one brand can fit completely differently from another. The label size tells you very little. Measurements tell you everything.
Oversized tees are cut wider on purpose, so the size letter does not mean what it does on a standard tee. Look at the garment measurements in the size chart, mainly chest width, length and shoulder width, and compare them with a tee you already own and like.
Lay your favourite tee flat. Measure across the chest from armpit to armpit, from the top of the shoulder seam to the hem, and across the shoulder seam. Then compare these numbers with the chart. This is the most reliable way to avoid guessing.
True to size keeps the intended proportions: a roomy chest, dropped shoulder and a slightly longer body.
One size down gives a closer, less exaggerated fit. This works well if you are petite or you prefer a cleaner shape.
One size up pushes the look further, but it can swallow a smaller frame and make the shoulder seam sit too low.
RVB cuts its pieces in an intentionally oversized, unisex fit. These are garment measurements, and because each piece is cut and finished by hand in Saigon you can expect around 1 to 2 cm of variation between pieces.
| Size | Chest | Length | Shoulder |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 108 cm | 68 cm | 58 cm |
| M | 114 cm | 70 cm | 60 cm |
| L | 120 cm | 72 cm | 62 cm |
| XL | 126 cm | 74 cm | 64 cm |
Chest: around the fullest part of your chest, with the tape flat and level under your arms.
Shoulder: across the back from one shoulder point to the other.
Length: from the top of the shoulder seam down to where you want the hem to sit.
Add room for the look you want. A tee with 20 to 25 cm of extra chest room over your body measurement will read as clearly oversized. Less than that gives a relaxed fit, more starts to look very boxy.
Sizing up twice because the model looks relaxed. The cut is already generous.
Ignoring length. A very long and very wide tee can shorten how your legs look, especially on shorter frames.
Forgetting the bottom. A wide top is easiest to wear with a straight or relaxed pant.
If you are between two sizes, message the brand with your measurements. RVB's team will help you pick on the Help or Contact page.
