Good streetwear pieces can last for years, and most of the damage comes from the washing machine and the dryer, not from wearing. A few small habits protect the print, the shape and the colour. Always read the care label on your piece first, and treat this as general guidance.
Turn it inside out. This protects the print from rubbing against other clothes.
Wash in cold water. Heat is what cracks and fades prints and makes cotton shrink.
Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent. Skip bleach and fabric softener on printed areas.
Wash with similar colours. Dark and light separately.
Do not tumble dry. Hang it to dry in the shade. Direct sun fades dark colours.
Oversized tees keep their shape better when you hang them on a wide hanger or lay them flat to dry. Avoid hanging heavy wet tees by the shoulders for long, because the weight can stretch the neck and the shoulder seams.
Wash less often. Jeans and denim jackets do not need washing after every wear. Air them out between wears.
Wash inside out in cold water. This keeps the colour from fading too fast.
Wash dark denim separately the first few times, because the dye can run.
Zip and button everything. This prevents snagging inside the machine.
Hang dry. Dryer heat shrinks denim and wears the fibres.
Some denim is made with washes, distressing or a worn look on purpose. Treat it gently: cold wash by hand or on a delicate cycle, and do not scrub the distressed areas.
Treat a stain as soon as you can. Blot, never rub. Use a small amount of mild detergent and cold water, and test on an inside seam first.
Fold tees and hoodies. Hanging can stretch the shoulders.
Hang jackets on a proper hanger.
Keep clothes dry and away from direct sun. In humid cities like Saigon, add a silica pack in the closet to prevent mildew.
