What to Wear With Wide-Leg Pants: 7 Outfit Ideas

What to Wear With Wide-Leg Pants: 7 Outfit Ideas
Updated October 14, 2026

Wide-leg pants are one of the easiest ways to look put together without trying too hard. The trick is in the proportions. Once you understand what to put on top and on your feet, almost everything works.

The one rule: balance the volume

Wide pants have a lot of fabric from the hip down. Keep the top either fitted-to-regular or cropped and boxy, so your upper body has a clear shape. A very long, very wide top on top of wide pants tends to look shapeless.

1. A boxy tee and clean sneakers

The simplest outfit. A boxy tee in white or black, tucked slightly at the front or left loose and cropped at the hip, with wide pants and low-profile sneakers. Let the hem of the pants sit just above the floor so the shoes show.

2. A tank top for hot days

In Saigon heat, a tank top with wide pants is hard to beat. The air moves around your legs, and the plain top lets the pants be the focus. Add a cap and you are done.

3. A cropped jacket on top

A cropped or short-cut jacket ends around the waist and makes wide pants look intentional. Denim or a dark zip jacket works with almost any pant colour.

4. A hoodie for evenings

Wide pants and a zip hoodie is the classic streetwear combination. Keep the hoodie at normal length and let the pants do the volume.

5. A shirt worn open over a tee

A short-sleeve or light long-sleeve shirt worn open over a plain tee adds a layer without adding heat. Match the tee colour to the pants for a longer line.

6. All one colour family

Black on black, or grey on grey, with different textures. A single colour makes wide pants look sharp and stretches your height.

7. Flared or draped pants, cleaner top

Flare and drape cuts already have a lot going on, so keep the top simple: a fitted tee or a clean shirt, and one accessory.

Fit notes

On RVB's size chart, bottoms run from S (waist 76 cm, hip 106 cm) to XL (waist 88 cm, hip 118 cm), with an inseam of 68 to 71 cm. The cut is intentionally roomy, so sizing down gives a closer fit and staying true to size keeps the intended proportions.
